Look up! PET lamps!

The question we are asked more often than any other is "Where did you get those lamps?" Besides being extremely colorful and cheerful, the lamps' bases are actually reused PET bottles such as those from your favorite sodas, juices, and water bottles.

The concept was developed by designer Alvaro Catalán de Ocón, who began working with weavers in the Colombian Amazon in 2011. From the website: "The bottles changed from being containers for liquids into being ceiling lamps. We took advantage of the bottle top to join the electrical components to the lamp shade, the neck as the structure and the body of the bottle as a surface on which to weave. The principle of weaving is reinterpreted and the surface of the bottle is converted into the warp through which the artisan weaves the weft."

Featured Cocktail: The Bamboo

Along with several new additions to the Wine List and Summer Menu, we have a few new classic cocktails as well! One of our favorites is The Bamboo, a historic cocktail dating back to the 1880s. The drink was invented by German mixologist Louis Eppinger for The Grand Hotel in Yokohama, Japan. It is based on Oloroso Sherry and dry vermouth with two types of bitters and a lemon twist, The Bamboo is nutty, complex, and refreshing. The St. Paul Daily Globe news suggested on September 19, 1886 that the Bamboo was so named because "after imbibing, the drinker feels like 'Raising Cain'!"  Come try it for yourself, and let us know what you think.

Drink well, friends!

The Dream Maker Spritz...
Benefitting
Dream Makers San Luis Obispo

What's better than sipping on a delicious Spritz by the beach?

Hmmm... that's already pretty tough to beat. How abut sipping on that Spritz while benefiting a very worthy cause! Introducing the Dream Maker Spritz, a strawberry dream of a cocktail featuring Lillet Blanc, our house-made strawberry basil shrub, Prosecco, and a splash of soda water. Through the summer months, we'll be offering this aperitif cocktail with an altruistic twist. For every Dream Maker Spritz we sell, we will donate five dollars to Dream Makers San Luis Obispo! Dream Makers SLO is an organization of community members that donate their time, energy, and creativity to making dreams come true to terminally ill patients and their families, right here in San Luis Obispo County. Lift a glass to a good cause!
